WESTWOOD GALLERY NYC in collaboration with Ron Cayen Inc. announces the exclusive representation of the estate of photographer Roy Schatt (1909-2002). The estate holdings include extraordinary photographs of James Dean and never before seen photographs of members of the Actors Studio during the 1950’s, including Marilyn Monroe, Steve McQueen and Elia Kazan. Roy Schatt was in the circle of talented subjects he photographed, such as Billie Holiday, Tennessee Williams, Arthur Penn and Rod Steiger and was known for his antithesis of glamour photography.

MARILYN MONROE ON NEW YORK CITY SUBWAY

Sam Shaw’s photographs of Marilyn Monroe in New York are on display at the 42nd St. subway station for the B,D,F,M and 7 lines, New York City. This exhibit is part of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s “Arts for Transit” program, and will be up until December 2013. In 1954 it was Sam who suggested the famous sequence of Marilyn Monroe’s skirt blown up over a street grate, in “The Seven Year Itch”.

PRESS: ANDY WARHOL imaginary friends

Westwood Gallery NYC’s founder and curator James Cavello organized for The National Arts Club a premiere exhibition of 49 original drawings by Andy Warhol. This rare collection, created from 1955 to 1967, represents Warhol’s unique, free-form expressions inspired by dance, performance, and esoteric influences. Warhol had a lifelong fascination with the performing arts and frequently attended theatre, ballet, concerts and countercultural events throughout his lifetime in New York City.
