ARTISTS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

Westwood Gallery NYC presented the exhibition "Artists for Human Rights" on August 2006. Artists, dignitaries, United Nations representatives and hundreds of interested audience members attended the opening reception at Westwood Gallery. Each artwork was inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and evoked a tremendous response. Remarks from the curator, James Cavello, President of Westwood Gallery, as well as from Artists for Human Rights Founder, Anne Archer, joined those by the United Nations representative to further emphasize the value and need to engage artists in human rights education today.

The exhibition, scheduled to coincide with the Youth Summit at the United Nations on Making Human Rights a Global Reality, ran through the month of August. The summit, sponsored by Youth for Human Rights, attracted ambassadors, consulates, human rights advocacies and youth leaders from every continent. In celebration of the Summit, Archer presented Human Rights Hero Awards to youth leaders from around the world. On August 24th, at Westwood Gallery, NYC, a limited edition print of Pomm's latest watercolor, "We Believe in Peace," was presented by the artist to Mr. Enzo di Taranto, of the United Nations, on behalf of Artists for Human Rights International. Mr. di Taranto is the coordinator of the United Nations' Action Two program on Human Rights, and has displayed "We Believe in Peace" at the United Nations.
